A heavy schedule of field work at its Mavis Lake lithium project in Canada continues to deliver results for Critical Resources (ASX: CRR), with drilling returning a continuous 53.6 metre zone of spodumene in pegmatites.

This follows an earlier announcement this month where Critical Resources said it intended to advance Mavis Lake with resource extension drilling underway, in parallel with grassroots exploration to define and refine further drill target selection.

Drilling is focusing on the Swell Zone where there have been intersections of spodumene bearing pegmatites of significant width.

Widths ‘significantly’ greater than previously estimated

Infill drilling at the Swell Zone has seen multiple wide mineralised zones logged down-hole, with these widths greater than those included in the most recent mineral resource estimate.

These latest results include one hole with mineralised intercepts totalling 67.85m, including that 53.6m interval.

Visual estimates for that interval put the spodumene grade at 10%.

Another hole returned mineralised intercepts for a total of 61.75m with visual estimates of 15% spodumene, while a third hole intercepted 33.95m of mineralisation with a spodumene grade of 20%.

Possible new lower zone

Those wider widths now being intercepted indicate that the company might have identified a new lower zone.

Managing director Alex Cheeseman said the company’s confidence and understanding of the Mavis Lake mineralisation is increasing with every drill hole.

“Drilling is now regularly hitting thick mineralised pegmatite as the Swell Zone is tracked to the east and west.”

“The addition of a possible new Lower Zone also provides an exciting opportunity to add tonnage to a future resource upgrade,” he added.

Another 15 assays are being awaited.

Critical Resources holds a number of lithium prospects across Ontario, Canada, including Mavis Lake, Graphic Lake, Plaid and Whiteloon Lake.

Earlier this year, it released a maiden inferred mineral resource estimate for Mavis Lake of 8 million tonnes at 1.07% lithium oxide.

The company’s other projects include copper in Oman and a base metals project in Halls Peak, NSW.
