Technology solutions provider Cirrus Networks (ASX: CNW) has joined forces with global computing specialist Nvidia to promote accelerated computing and artificial intelligence (AI) innovations across Australia’s resources sector.

The partnership will combine Nvidia’s graphic processing units and AI hardware and software solutions with Cirrus’ industry knowledge and service capabilities to provide a platform for advancing AI-driven technologies.

It will enable resources companies to unlock hidden insights from vast amounts of data, while optimising their operations, enhancing safety measures and driving sustainable growth.

Cirrus also plans to harness the connectivity prowess of Nvidia’s Spectrum-X networking platform which combines best-in-class ethernet hardware and software to provide the consistent levels of performance demanded by AI workloads.

The versatile technology can be used with various applications to significantly enhance the performance and efficiency of AI clusters.

Transformative outcomes

Cirrus chairman Paul Everingham said the collaboration is expected to deliver “transformative” outcomes for businesses and government agencies operating in the resources sector.

“We are thrilled to combine Nvidia’s state-of-the-art technology with our industry expertise and platform solutions,” he said.

“We aim to advance these key cutting-edge technologies within the Australian resources sector to drive sustainable growth through the power of AI.”

Next-generation technologies

Nvidia country manager (Australia and New Zealand) Sudarshan Ramachandran said the partnership would promote next-generation high performance computing technologies.

”Working with Cirrus to drive AI innovation, efficiency, and sustainability across the resources sector marks a significant milestone in our journey to empower Australian companies with transformative AI solutions,” he said.

“Together, we aim to unlock the immense potential of AI to address critical challenges and create a brighter, more sustainable future.”

Sustainable methods

Accelerated computing is believed to be one of the most sustainable methods of reclaiming power and achieving net zero emissions.

GPUs are reported to deliver up to 42 times better energy efficiency on AI inference than central processing units (CPUs).

“By harnessing AI for energy optimisation, resource management and predictive analytics, the resources sector can make significant strides toward achieving its sustainability goals,” Mr Everingham said.
