Internet of things technology developer Buddy Technologies (ASX: BUD) has begun rolling out its LIFX point of sale systems in Europe, with German DYI retailer Bauhaus the first company to receive the systems, which will display Buddy’s LIFX smart light range.

Buddy’s LIFX point of sale systems are now launched in 15 Bauhaus tier one stores – displacing major German lighting brand Osram, which will have its smart lights phased out.

The LIFX point of sale systems are expected to be rolled out at other Bauhaus stores in the coming quarters.

According to Buddy, the new point of sale systems “better display and promote LIFX products”.

Additionally, the new units are modular and easily adjustable and can feature third party products such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant devices.

As part of the roll-out each Bauhaus store is already fully stocked with an extensive range of LIFX products which are on sale.

The roll-out also marks Buddy’s expansion beyond tradition consumer electronics stores for its LIFX IoT systems.

LIFX brand gains traction across Europe

As well as launching LIFX through Bauhaus stores, Buddy is targeting other European markets.

Buddy noted it had received “significant interest” for its new point of sale displays in the region, with roll-out plans in retail partners across France, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland expected in the coming quarters.

“Unlike other smart lighting brands, LIFX brings a lifestyle marketing approach, a trusted brand specific to smart lighting, and a willingness to adopt a go-to-market strategy that presents a very credible and attractive alternative to the current market leader,” the company stated.

Other LIFX launches

The European roll-out follows Buddy’s LIFX White launch with US retail partners Amazon and Best Buy last week.

The LIFX White is Buddy’s first large scale, premium grade, low-cost smart light targeted at consumers looking to take their first steps with smart home technology.

With European sales of the unit now following, Buddy plans to launch the product in other territories including Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East, Canada, Mexico and South America.

Meanwhile other LIFX products have been recently made available in Apple stores, including online, across Hong Kong and Singapore.

Only last month, Buddy launched LIFX Downlight White to Warm and Candle White to Warm.

The LIFX Downlight White to Warm joins Buddy’s existing downlight product the LIFX Downlight Colour, which is the company’s highest selling item in Australia.
