BSA looks to optimise strategy after missing out on nbn field services contract

Telecommunications provider BSA (ASX: BSA) has been notified of its non-selection as a preferred tenderer for a new field services contract for the national broadband network.
The company said it had been verbally notified by nbn Co that it had not been selected for the tender and steps are now being taken to try to optimise its position in relation to the tender outcome.
The company was pursuing the tender in a teaming arrangement with specialist end-to-end engineering and services provider UGL, with the companies combining their strengths and capabilities to provide a “holistic solution.”
Current contract
BSA has a current unified field operations contract with nbn for the ongoing service and maintenance of the company’s fixed-line infrastructure network across New South Wales and Victoria.
nbn Co extended the contract in November to enable BSA to provide a range of activation and assurance services to its customers for fibre and hybrid fibre coaxial network infrastructure.
This contract expires in September 2025, with an extension option of up to 12 months at nbn’s discretion and no volume guarantees.
Digital future
BSA has delivered services for nbn, including the rollout and maintenance of the nation’s nbn network, since 2016.
“We have been fully aligned with nbn’s strategy, and in doing so, have built great expertise and service excellence in delivering service and network activation, assurance and maintenance activities,” the company said in September.
BSA’s work for nbn is among its most significant jobs and represented approximately 80% of its revenue in the 2024 financial year.
The company will release its results for the first half of FY2025 on 20 February.
