Barton Gold says the consistency of drilling results from 233 Deposit show potential to add a second zone of depth extension to the Tunkillia’s current resource.

Barton Gold (ASX: BDG) has expanded the contained gold at its 223 Deposit, within its Tunkillia project, by 20% to 1.15 million ounces.

The update added 189,000oz to the resource after 41 new reverse circulation holes were completed for 9,901m and a further five diamond drill holes for 1,346m at 223 Deposit.

Resources for 223 Deposit now stand at 38 million tonnes grading 0.94 grams per tonne gold for 1.15Moz.

Of the 223 Deposit resource, 80% is within 200m of surface and 670, 000oz is classified as indicated.

Additionally, 225,000oz of the total resource is contained within a shallow supergene blanket about 40m deep.

Meanwhile, mining widths are broad and between 40-80m.

Barton managing director Alex Scanlon noted the additional 189,000oz in resources for the project had a discovery cost of $12/oz and an “exceptional result” that “further confirms” the company’s strategy of extensional drilling at 223 Deposit.

Tunkillia gold project

Barton acquired Tunkillia in December 2019 and undertook its maiden drilling program at 223 Deposit in August 2021.

This program confirmed the deposit’s central zone as a high-grade priority development target area. In addition to 223 Deposit, Barton has identified gold at Area 51, 223 North, Area 191 and Tomahawk within the project.

“The 223 Deposit itself remains open to further extensions, and we have already confirmed more than 2km of new gold mineralisation nearby.”

Mr Scanlon said the company will follow up on these results and testing other regional targets later in the year.

He added Tunkillia hosts around 20km of untouched shear along strike that the company will work its way down.

Central Gawler Craton

Tunkillia lies within South Australia’s Central Gawler Craton, along with its Central Gawler mill and Tarcoola project.

Across its portfolio in the region, Barton owns 5,100sq km of ground and has global resources of 1.3Moz of contained gold.

Tarcoola sits on an existing mining licence and hosts the historical Perseverance mine.
