Barton Gold (ASX: BGD) has completed its high-resolution ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey at Tarcoola along with a phase two drilling campaign.

The survey targeted around 2.6 square kilometres of land around the project’s historic Perseverance gold mine.

Meanwhile, drilling totalled 4,944m and comprised 42 holes across Perseverance North, Lady Racin’, Perseverance West and Eclipse prospects, which lie to the historic mine’s north and south.

Barton managing director Alexander Scanlon said the company was “very pleased” to complete the exploration programs on schedule deposit difficulties posed by COVID-19.

“Several of the areas drilled have previously yielded very interesting results and we have also tested some new targets, so we are looking forward to receiving assay results in the coming weeks.”

Mr Scanlon added the GPR team had done an “impressive job” covering over 100-line kilometres in a short time period.

“The data collected will now be processed and analysed in conjunction with our other new and historical data sets, targeting new Perseverance-style structure discoveries across ML6455.”

Mr Scanlon noted exploration at Tarcoola was continuing “at pace” with a rig expected to be mobilised to the other gold project Tunkillia later this month, which is also located in South Australia’s Gawler Craton.

Tarcoola and Tunkillia

Today’s news at Tarcoola follows Barton securing up to $300,000 in grant funding from the South Australian Government.

Barton has been awarded up to $300,000 in co-funding to finance an approved program at works at Tarcoola.

Mr Scanlon said the company was “honoured” to receive the support from the state government.

There has been minimal modern exploration across Tarcoola and Tunkilla over the past 20 years.

Tarcoola covers 1,202sq km in the region and hosts high-grade historic workings with records indicating 77,000 ounce of gold was produced from these workings at 37.5 grams per tonne between 1900 and 1955.

The Perseverance deposit was mined between 2017 and 2018.

At Tunkillia, Barton has firmed up a resource estimate totalling 26.1Mt at 1.15g/t gold for 965,000oz.

Tunkillia comprises three exploration licences spanning 1,362sq km.
