Astral Resources reports AC drilling returns up to 28g/t gold at Mandilla

West Australian gold explorer Astral Resources (ASX: AAR) has reported that assay results from drilling completed in May at its Mandilla project demonstrate the potential to continue extending the mineralisation at the Eos prospect to the southeast.
One of the holes from the limited air-core drilling at the Eos prospect of 33 holes (for 2,132 metres) returned 8 metres at 9.58 grams per tonne gold, including 3m at 18.93g/t, 1m at 12.1g/t and 1m of 28.02g/t. Mineralisation began at 49m down hole.
Mandilla, 70km north of Kalgoorlie, consists of four prospects: Eos, Iris, Hestia and Theia.
Other intersections included 10m at 5.50g/t (including 3m at 11.81g/t), 4m at 4.55g/t, 9m at 2.04g/t and 2m at 2.59g/t.
Infill drilling at Theia deposit
Air-core drilling has extended the extent of known mineralisation at the shallow Eos prospect’s palaeochannel towards the southeast, the company says.
Further AC drilling will be undertaken in the coming months.
Meanwhile, at the Theia deposit, in-fill reverse circulation drilling is currently under way southeast of the existing known mineralisation.
This will be followed by diamond drilling in September, along with the completion of a structural review of Theia.
Some of the highest-grade assays so far
Managing director Marc Ducler said that, in spite of the modest scale of the air-core program, it has delivered exceptional high-grade assay results from drilling designed to test the south-eastern extent of Eos.
“The drilling has not only confirmed that the palaeochannel remains open to the southeast but is has also returned some of the highest-grade assays obtained at Eos so far,” he added.
Meanwhile, a reverse circulation drilling program has been completed recently at the company’s Feysville project which is located 14km from Kalgoorlie.
The project lies on the same gold belt as the 70 million ounce Golden Mile in Kalgoorlie.
That belt runs over 100km and hosts several large mines including New Celebration at the 50Moz St Ives.
