Zeotech (ASX: ZEO) has entered into an agreement with global building and civil engineering company VINCI Construction SA to collaborate on concrete trials using AusPozz high-performance metakaolin sourced from Zeotech’s Toondoon kaolin project in Queensland.
The two-year memorandum of understanding with VINCI will see Zeotech supply agreed quantities of AusPozz and provide technical support and guidance to VINCI, with a view to advancing the use of high-reactivity metakaolin in low-carbon concrete and supporting the product’s development.
The collaboration builds on Zeotech’s broader AusPozz commercialisation strategy which includes ongoing engagement with concrete and cement producers, infrastructure participants and engineering groups seeking lower-carbon supplementary cementitious material (SCM).
Results generated will be assessed to determine future opportunities for commercial engagement.
High-Performance Additive
The trials will facilitate further opportunities to validate AusPozz as a high-performance additive to traditional Portland cement, reducing the total binder and embodied carbon of concrete while enhancing strength, durability, and long-term performance.
Independent testing has demonstrated cement replacement rates of up to 40% in optimised concrete mixes, delivering improved compressive strength, reduced shrinkage, enhanced durability, and mitigation of alkali-silica reaction.
Zeotech chief executive officer James Marsh said the agreement was critical to advancing the adoption of AusPozz in the construction industry.
“Entering into this memorandum of understanding with one of the world’s leading construction companies represents another important step in the commercialisation of AusPozz,” he said.
“Working collaboratively on concrete trials will provide further opportunities to demonstrate its performance and potentially support lower-carbon construction, while building the technical validation required to support broader market adoption.”
Underground Mining Tests
Independent test work earlier this year confirmed that AusPozz can deliver improved technical performance and potential cost savings in underground cemented paste backfill (CPB) applications.
Testing was replicated onsite by a high-profile underground mining operator with improved workability demonstrated through easier pumping and placement of CPB, which is an important performance requirement for the industry.
It also showed potential for lower operating costs and improved mine stability, with lowered cement usage and stronger backfill contributing to enhanced geotechnical performance and reduced dilution risk.
Mr Marsh said the findings validated AusPozz as a technically robust SCM enabling reduced binder consumption while delivering immediate operational value in underground mining environments.
