Unity Metals (ASX: UM1) has had early success in maiden drilling at the O’Phlay gold project in eastern Cambodia.

Unity’s very first hole drilled at the project in Mondulkiri Province intersected 40 metres at 1.9 grams per tonne gold from 82m in fresh rock, including 17m at 3.9g/t gold and 5m at 10.5g/t gold.

The result is Unity’s best gold intersection in Cambodia to date and comes from the first modern drilling conducted at O’Phlay, despite evidence of historical open-pit and underground mining.

A second interval returned 8.5m at 0.7g/t gold from 129.5m within the broad mineralised system beneath surface exposures at the Camp prospect.

Unity plans to expand its initially planned 3,000m, 21-hole diamond drilling program to test the new mineralisation at depth and along strike while assays remain pending from three additional completed holes.

Vein System Remains Open

The discovery hole tested diorite-hosted gold-bearing veins exposed in historical open pits, including a 5.5m surface zone grading 2.1g/t gold, as well as a coincident gradient array induced polarisation (GAIP) chargeability anomaly identified alongside earlier surface mapping and geochemical sampling.

Unity interprets the mineralisation as intrusion-related gold, a style comparable with its nearby Ngot gold project and the Okvau gold mine about 60km to the west owned by Emerald Resources (ASX: EMR).

“This first hole was drilled directly beneath a broad zone of gold-bearing veins exposed in open pits at the Camp prospect, next door to the historical Vietnamese processing plant,” managing director Craig Mackay said.

“There are two of these prominent GAIP chargeability anomalies that have been located in the eastern portion of the Camp prospect, that collectively extend over 1.8km.”

“We eagerly await the results of our planned drilling along these extensive target areas [with] more assays expected in the coming weeks.”

Laboratory Results Pending

Unity has completed four diamond holes for 570.6m at Camp, with the first hole drilled to 200.7m and laboratory results awaited from the remaining three holes.

The reported intersections are down-hole lengths and their true widths remain unknown, with intervals calculated using a 0.3g/t lower cut-off grade and up to 4m of internal dilution.

Most of the planned O’Phlay drilling is focused on Camp, where proposed holes will test targets defined through the geophysical surveys together with earlier geological mapping and geochemical sampling.

Current drill spacing is not sufficient to establish geological and grade continuity for a mineral resource estimate (MRE) at this stage, while infill drilling will be required before any MRE can be declared.
