More positive drill results have been returned for Southern Cross Gold (ASX: SXG) at its wholly-owned Sunday Creek gold-antimony project in Victoria.
Latest results include hole 55, which was the first cross hole and tested the upper levels across previous hole 50.
Highlight intercepts from hole 55 were 18m at 4.1 grams per tonne gold equivalent (1.2g/t gold and 1.8% antimony) from 388.5m, including 0.4m at 59.3g/t gold equivalent (9.8g/t gold and 31.4% antimony) from 392m, and 2.1m at 11.5g/t gold equivalent (4.7g/t gold and 4.3% antimony) from 400m.
Drilling deeper in hole 55 also hit 5.1m at 2.8g/t gold equivalent (1.7g/t gold and 0.7% antimony) from 417.9m, including 0.2m at 26.8g/t gold equivalent (12.6g/t gold and 9% antimony) from 417.9m.
Another hole 53 was drilled parallel to and 140m above hole 50.
Southern Cross noted this hole intersected the lower grade margin of three vein sets.
Notable assays from hole 53 were 10.4m at 1.5g/t gold equivalent from 270.6m; and 14m at 1.5g/t gold equivalent from 307m, including 0.4m at 35.9g/t gold equivalent from 317.5m.
Known mineralisation extended
Holes 53 and 55 have shown continuity in the Rising Sun shoot over 250m down dip between the upper levels of holes 50, 21 and 46.
Southern Cross managing director Michael Hudson noted the results also confirm mineralisation around hole 50 extends further than previously known.
He said drilling hole 55 at an angle to hole 50 was a “critical building block” in building the company’s knowledge of the width, grade and continuity of gold and antimony at deeper levels.
Mineralisation was encountered up to 60m above and 40m east of hole 50, which Mr Hudson says suggests bulging of the host structure at depth.
“A further five holes will be, or have been, drilled to test the mineralisation in hole 50 from the northwest-southeast orientation to gain further knowledge in an east-to-west direction.”
Advancing Sunday Creek
Three rigs are currently operating at Sunday Creek across the Golden Dyke, Rising Sun and Apollo prospects.
There are 13 drill holes either awaiting assays or in progress, with deepest drilling completed to-date at Rising Sun and Apollo.
Mr Hudson said the company was well-funded with $17.9 million in cash to complete more than 30,000m of drilling at Sunday Creek over the next 12 months.
He added one of the “huge advantages” of Sunday Creek is the breccia dyke host structure is “clearly defined and mappable”.
It extends over 1.2km and down to 800m.
There is also evidence over 10km of strike of multiple parallel dyke structures across the area.
