Singular Health Group (ASX: SHG) has signed an agreement with Florida International University (FIU) for the joint delivery of a secure interoperable medical imaging data repository using Singular’s 3DICOM platform and technology to be part of the state’s Medicaid program.
Designed to safeguard sensitive information under US federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements, the repository will support physicians and clinics serving more than 3.4 million patients currently enrolled in the Medicaid scheme.
The 3DICOM medical imaging software platform converts standard 2D medical scans (such as CT, MRI, and PET) into fully interactive and volumetric 3D models.
The integration will create a common connection point for providers, networks, and health plans serving Medicaid patients.
Subject to successful delivery and separate commercial agreements, it will also provide a potential pathway to extend 3DICOM licences and services to other US states.
Commercial Licensing
To date, Singular Health has commercialised 3DICOM in the US mainly through annual per-physician licences to provider networks at a cost of US$800 per doctor per year.
Its largest agreement with US-based healthcare organisation Provider Network Solutions (PNS) covers 1,000 licences (or approximately US$800,000 a year), which the company expects will eventually be expanded and renewed.
Once the definitive agreement is executed, it would be the company’s first contracted revenue from infrastructure and repository delivery alongside its licence revenue.
Managing director Denning Chong said the Florida agreement was the first time a state had funded 3DICOM as infrastructure rather than licenced to individual provider networks.
“Florida has a history of leading Medicaid innovation, and what FIU and Singular Health are going to deploy and measure here has the potential to become a blueprint for Medicaid programs across the country,” he added.
Fragmented Imaging System
Medical imaging remains fragmented across hospitals, imaging centres, and healthcare providers, with patient scans often unable to be located or shared between organisations and repeat examinations resulting in increased costs, delayed diagnosis, and treatment or unnecessary patient exposure to radiation.
The Florida repository will enable authorised providers serving Medicaid patients to locate, access, view and share existing imaging across participating organisations, regardless of where the initial scans were performed.
FIU intends to seek more than US$3 million in annual funding from Florida’s government for use of the repository.
Singular Health expects to deliver the project primarily with its existing team, significantly improving the business’ operating cash flow, and will recognise its 85% share of the total funding during the 2027 financial year.
