Pure One Corporation Records 25.4% Gas Readings from Drilling at Surat Basin Venus-2H Well

Pure One Corporation (ASX: P1E) has reported strong gas shows from drilling at the Venus-2H horizontal appraisal well after it entered the target Macalister Lower coal seam at Project Venus in Queensland’s Surat Basin.

The well has encountered intervals containing up to 100% coal cuttings and total gas readings of up to 25.4%, compared with the drilling program’s wellsite classification threshold of above 8% for an excellent gas show.

Pure One holds a 69.4% interest in project operator Eastern Gas Corporation (ASX: EGA), which is drilling Venus-2H toward a planned intersection with the existing Venus-1 vertical wellbore.

Venus-2H is now about 60 metres from Venus-1, and the program is moving toward completion of the planned 1,000m horizontal section before dewatering and flow testing begin.

Venus Wells Near Intersection

Venus-2H is at a measured depth of about 860m following the setting and cementing of its 7-inch casing and subsequent drilling through the Macalister Lower seam toward Venus-1.

A drilling assembly carrying a downhole ranging tool is being deployed to determine the relative position of Venus-2H to the steel casing in Venus-1 and guide the final drilling section toward the planned intersection point.

Once the intersection is achieved, drilling is planned to continue through the target coal to complete the 1,000m horizontal section.

From there, the integrated Venus-2H and Venus-1 well system will be prepared for dewatering and flow testing.

Flow Testing the Next Focus

The planned flow-testing program is designed to assess water production, reservoir pressure response, release of gas from the coal, gas flow, and overall productivity of the target coal after completion of the horizontal well section.

Dewatering will form an important part of that process as Eastern Gas moves from confirming the presence of gas within the coal toward testing how the integrated well system performs under operating conditions.

Eastern Gas expects to provide further operational updates around completion of the Venus-2H horizontal section, commencement of dewatering and flow testing and any material results generated from that work.

For Pure One, the program is progressing toward the stage at which gas deliverability and overall target-coal productivity can be assessed from the current Venus-2H and Venus-1 configuration.
