The June quarter was a busy one for Oar Resources (ASX: OAR), which received the exploration licence for its Crown nickel-copper-platinum group element project in Western Australia – paving the way for field work to begin.

Located in central Chittering on the western edge of the Yilgarn Craton, Oar’s Crown project is only 9km from Chalice Gold Mining’s (ASX: CHN) Gonneville discovery.

At Gonneville, Chalice has unearthed 50m at 1.8 grams per tonne palladium, 0.5g/t platinum, 0.9g/t gold, 0.2% nickel and 1.1% copper.

The initial field work program at Crown will involve detailed geological mapping and outcrop sampling to follow up on 20 targets that were firmed up during geophysical interpretation.

A systematic soil sampling program will also be undertaken to finalise drill targets.

Gibraltar halloysite-kaolin project

Over in South Australia’s Eyre Peninsular, Oar advanced its Gibraltar halloysite-kaolin project during the June quarter.

The company has completed two drilling programs at the project comprising 65-holes for about 2,129m.

Results were received in July from analysis of drill samples, which identified a large zone of bright and ultra-bright white kaolinite.

The new zone is within the project’s southwest and is about 2.5km by 5km.

Notable results from this zone were 5m at 80 ISO-B from 17m, 10m at 77.6 ISO-B from 13m, and 14m at 76.2 ISO-B from 14m.

Results are still pending from 127 composite samples selected from phase two drilling.

Further drilling at Gibraltar is planned and will feed into geological models and a maiden resource.

Nevada gold assets

Work has continued at Oar’s Nevada gold assets in the US, with the company spending the June quarter planning a maiden drilling program at the Douglas Canyon project.

The maiden program will comprise two diamond core holes for 560m.

Rock chip sampling at Douglas Canyon returned peak results of 18g/t gold and 495g/t silver.
