Mont Royal Resources (ASX: MRZ) will commence a helicopter-supported till sampling survey to test for gold on the Chateaufort property at its Northern Lights lithium-copper-gold project in the James Bay region of Québec.
The company aims to systematically evaluate mineralisation potential from 60 samples at a target area located along strike from Benz Mining Corp’s (ASX: BNZ) Eastmain project.
Eastmain currently hosts a resource of 1.005 million ounces at 6.1 grams per tonne gold.
The gold and base metal endowment of the Eastmain extensions have not previously been tested and Mont Royal’s survey will take full account of the local topography, wetlands, and regional ice-flow direction.
Survey Procedure Set
Canadian geological consultant IOS Geosciences will complete sample collection this month over one week, excluding mobilisation and demobilisation.
The survey will feature two sampling lines spaced approximately 2 kilometres apart on a grid designed to to help refine future exploration priorities across the property.
Samples will be transported 200km to the borough of Chicoutimi for processing, with preliminary handheld XRF (x-ray fluorescence) analysis and pebble count data expected in August.
IOS is scheduled to deliver a full report, including gold-grain counts, before end-September following receipt and approval of assays.
James Bay Landholding
The Chateaufort survey forms part of Mont Royal’s summer exploration program and aims to satisfy annual minimum expenditure requirements at Northern Lights, where the company holds an option to acquire a 75% interest.
The project represents a significant landholding in the Upper Eastmain Greenstone Belt of the James Bay region — an emerging world-class lithium-pegmatite district with multiple significant discoveries and growing infrastructure.
The belt is home to projects including Shaakichiuwaanaan (owned by PMET Resources, ASX: PMT), James Bay (Rio Tinto, ASX: RIO) and Adina (Li-FT Power, ASX: LFT).
Historical high-grade surface results and favourable geology across the Northern Lights package indicate the presence of gold-copper mineralisation, with Mont Royal’s exploration so far establishing three distinct target areas offering compelling discovery potential.
