Litchfield Minerals (ASX: LMS) has outlined a 2027 growth strategy built around attracting a mining partner to the Harts Range operation in the Northern Territory and adding a second copper exploration project.

The copper-focused explorer wants a mid-tier or major mining company to help fund district-scale exploration while it concentrates its own capital on the most prospective copper and copper–nickel targets.

A potential agreement with BHP (ASX: BHP) remains under consideration, with an investment committee decision expected later in November following completion of the BHP Xplor program.

Litchfield has opened discussions with alternative partners following the expiry of BHP’s first right of refusal, giving it other options as it reshapes its exploration portfolio.

BHP Assessment Underway

BHP is reviewing magnetotelluric, gravity, and tipper data collected across Harts Range, with initial MT data received on 2 November and final processing and interpretation continuing.

The completed Xplor program has improved Litchfield’s understanding of the belt, including copper–nickel opportunities associated with systems in which mineralisation forms from magma.

At Oonagalabi, the immediate priority is to assess recent drilling assays and refine the geological model before determining the next exploration steps.

Ground electromagnetic surveys are planned at Sybil and Illogwa to sharpen targets, while the next program at Hammer Hill remains under review.

Any wider Harts Range partnership would depend on negotiated scope, funding commitments, and retained interests, with Litchfield seeking to share costs without surrendering meaningful exposure to discoveries.

Second Copper Growth Platform

The proposed complementary acquisition would ideally be a drill-ready copper or copper–gold project capable of providing nearer-term exploration activity alongside the longer-term Harts Range campaign.

Litchfield will assess candidates for geological merit, commercial terms, and its capacity to finance work without compromising its existing priority targets.

“Our commitment to Harts Range has not changed and this strategy puts a more commercially focused structure around how we advance it,” managing director Matthew Pustahya said.

“Ultimately, our objective is to create value for shareholders from the ground we have assembled.”

“That means pursuing the right partners, making disciplined decisions about where we invest our capital, and ensuring we retain meaningful exposure to the exploration opportunities we believe offer the greatest potential for our shareholders.”

Non-Core Asset Review

Litchfield is separately examining commercial structures for rare earth elements, uranium, and other non-core mineral opportunities, which it does not intend to develop as dedicated exploration businesses.

Possible arrangements include project-level partnerships or separately funded vehicles, potentially preserving exposure through retained interests, equity or other transaction consideration.

The company is also seeking partners for Mount Doreen and Silver Valley, reviewing the manganese opportunity at Lucy Creek, and considering whether to retain other exploration ground.

That scrutiny follows higher Northern Territory exploration licence rents, with published charges for first- and second-year licences rising approximately 141% from $46 to $111 per block from 1 October, although the change does not apply uniformly to its portfolio.
