DC Two’s (ASX: DC2) nation-wide expansion plans are well-underway with its data centre in Victoria entering the next stage of commercialisation after Joule Energy agreed to purchase a modular unit for $482,396.
As part of the deal, DC Two will deliver Joule one fully integrated and operational data centre module including empty racks, power distribution, cooling, internal networking, hardware, security, fire detection and remote monitoring sensors capable of powering around 800 kilowatts of IT and server equipment.
The data centre will be deployed “behind the metre” at Joule’s renewable energy site in Melbourne’s west.
“While selling individual DC modular units is currently not a corporate priority, the company will harness this opportunity to investigate the commercial viability of this revenue stream to understand if selling standalone units to customers, locally and globally, could provide significant recurring revenue from these sales in the future,” DC Two managing director Justin Thomas explained.
DC Two expects to deliver the data centre on site to Joule in mid-January. Joule will pay in tranches with the final payment to be made at completion of onsite commissioning and handover.
Multiple data centre installation potential
Additionally, both companies are working towards formal agreements relating to installing multiple DC Two owned and operated data centre modules at the site.
DC Two is also negotiating power access at the site, with discussions also underway regarding the company carrying out ongoing management of Joule’s data centre, IT servers and equipment.
It is anticipated the ongoing management of Joule’s data centre and equipment will result in future recurring revenue for DC Two.
Tier III accreditation
Today’s news coincides with DC Two expecting tier III accreditation for its data centre facility in Bibra Lake in Western Australia.
“We are on track to become the only company in Western Australia with an Uptime Institute accredited tier III data centre and ISO 27001 ISMS accredited cloud platform,” Mr Thomas pointed out.
Securing this accreditation is expected to help DC Two onboard a range of large enterprise customers from multiple industries.
