Dateline Resources (ASX: DTR) has identified a 200-metre strike of the Pinto Gneiss unit at its Music Valley project in California following assays from field mapping and sampling.

The company’s structural consultant identified outcropping zones of the rare earth elements (REE)-bearing unit in three target areas that had never previously been sampled for rare earths, correlating with a thorium anomaly identified in recent high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric surveys.

A total 33 samples collected over a wide area returned anomalous total rare earth oxides (TREO) results, with a high proportion of magnet rare earth oxides (MREO) at a best grade of 7.1% TREO.

Acquired in February, the Music Valley project comprises 57 claims over 1,140 acres.

Northwest Target Area

A cluster of samples over an approximate 200m strike length across the northwest target area were found to be highly anomalous for rare earths and associated minerals, with 11 having grades ranging from 1.09% TREO in the northern end to 0.68% TREO.

One of the samples returned the strongest yttrium-heavy rare earths (Y-HREE) response in Dateline’s current dataset including 411ppm yttrium oxide, 106ppm dysprosium oxide, and 25.8ppm terbium oxide.

It will now become a priority focus for field checking, petrography, and mineralogical work.

Dateline said further mapping and infill sampling would be needed to test continuity between exposures and define the structural and lithological controls on REE enrichment.

Different Geological Properties

In the southern target area of Music Valley, the Pinto Gneiss has a number of sub-units with different geological properties and widespread samples returning best TREO assays of 7.13%, 2.32% and 1.07%.

Dateline confirmed that further mapping and mineralogical work would be required to determine whether these occurrences form one coherent zone, parallel zones or separate mineralised lenses.

Six rock chip samples were also collected from outcrops over a grid of 500m x 500m in the central area, with a broad range of rare earth assays returning up to 0.66% TREO and 32.1% MREO.

Whilst the tenor of the assays was not as high here as in the other target areas, all of them were anomalous over a large area.

Colosseum Approval Upheld

The news comes after Dateline received support earlier this week for its position at its Colosseum gold-HREE project after the US Department of Justice (DOJ) opposed proceedings brought by the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) against federal agencies.

The DOJ submitted that the existing Plan of Operations remains effective and authorises ongoing activities at Colosseum, with the National Park Service’s April 2025 correspondence merely confirming the legal status of an existing approval rather than granting a new authorisation.

It further argued that the California Desert Protection Act preserved valid existing rights when the Mojave National Preserve was created in 1994, and that an extended period of inactivity does not automatically terminate an approved plan of operations.

The DOJ also maintained that the NPCA had not demonstrated imminent and irreparable harm, noting that Colosseum occupies a previously disturbed mining area, alternative access remains available, and the site continues to be subject to approved reclamation requirements.
