D3 Energy (ASX: D3E) has secured Strategic Integrated Project (SIP) 20f status for its South African gas project covering permit areas ER315 and PR016, placing the project within the country’s national infrastructure program as the company advances it toward commercial development.

The designation provides a formal framework for government co-ordination and stakeholder engagement, and may also improve the project’s visibility with investors, lenders, and strategic partners while supporting infrastructure planning and future commercialisation.

It follows the re-establishment of gas flow at the NGT245 E well within ER315, where analysis confirmed a helium concentration of 5.2% after remedial cementing isolated deeper water zones that had been inhibiting flow.

D3 has also added five new Technical Cooperation Permits (TCPs) covering approximately 47,000 acres contiguous with its existing Free State position, extending the exploration pipeline around its established helium and methane acreage.

Strategic Status Support

SIP status is intended to support projects considered strategically important to South Africa’s economic development, energy security, and infrastructure objectives by incorporating them into the national infrastructure program.

Potential benefits include enhanced coordination across government departments, regulators, and stakeholders, as well as improved alignment with national energy objectives and a stronger profile with the investment, lending, and strategic partner communities.

“The granting of SIP status is a significant milestone for D3 and a formal recognition of the strategic role our project can play in securing South Africa’s energy future and in positioning the country as a key supplier of helium into the global market at a time when supply is under significant structural pressure and sources outside the Middle East are becoming more and more important,” chief executive officer David Casey said.

“We look forward to continuing engagement with government and stakeholders as we progress the project toward commercial development."

Nooitgedacht Helium Flow

The recent work at Nooitgedacht successfully restored gas flow from NGT245 E after remedial cementing isolated deeper water-bearing zones from the gas-producing zones.

A sample collected after flow resumed returned 5.2% helium and 49.7% methane, although D3 is retesting the anomalously low methane result before drawing further conclusions from that component of the analysis.

Further camera and log analysis is underway, and the company expects additional tailored remediation before production testing, while work at NGT245 D is due to resume after a stabilisation period following initial cementing.

ER315 has independently verified helium concentrations of up to 8% and forms part of D3’s approximately 469,847-acre Free State land position, with the initial PR016 application area covering about 7.5% of its total Exploration Right acreage.

New Permits Expand Footprint

The five new TCPs were granted for areas within and adjacent to D3’s existing exploration and application acreage.

Each TCP runs for one year and involves low-cost desktop geological and geophysical studies, after which D3 anticipates applying for full ERs over the respective areas.

D3 has already used that pathway at ER386, progressing from TCP status to ER status before obtaining independent certification of a maiden Contingent and Prospective Resource.

The new acreage lies along structural trends hosting the company’s existing discoveries and provides further exposure to prospective helium and methane zones within its core Free State position.

Together with the Nooitgedacht results and SIP 20f designation, the permit expansion gives D3 a broader acreage base and additional development pathways as it advances its South African helium and natural gas portfolio.
