Aurora Labs Receives Maiden Order to Deploy AU4 Propulsion Engines for UAV Field Testing

Aurora Labs (ASX: A3D) has received a $250,000 maiden purchase order from Australian company Sovereign Propulsion Systems (SPS) for the supply of 20 AU4 propulsion engines.

Aurora will deliver the engines to SPS’s secure facilities to be used for product integration and field testing in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to generate real-world performance data.

The information will provide valuable insight into Aurora’s propulsion development roadmap, enabling product refinement opportunities, enhanced reliability and real-world case studies to prospective and existing customers.

It will also allow the company to demonstrate the reliability needed for broader commercial and defence market engagement.

Platform-Agnostic Initiatives

The maiden order marks the start of Aurora’s sovereign platform-agnostic commercialisation initiatives, which will enable the propulsion system to be integrated across a wide range of drones and loitering-munition platforms by multiple end users.

Aurora and SPS are working to advance propulsion capabilities in the Australian market with a specific focus on UAV manufacturers and defence prime contractors.

As part of the collaboration, Aurora has agreed to provide propulsion systems to help SPS develop the capability to integrate its products in the field and deliver appropriate operational expertise and support programs.

The two expect the partnership to enhance their technical understanding and reinforce clearly defined market roles, strengthening the value proposition for potential customers.

AU4 Commercial Readiness

Aurora chief executive officer Rebekah Letheby said the maiden order validated the commercial readiness of the company’s AU4 propulsion technology.

“This is a major milestone which reinforces the strength of our partnership with another leading group and marks the beginning of our commercialisation strategy, creating a clear pathway to scale in the defence and UAV markets,” she said.

“Working alongside SPS enables us to gather real flight data, strengthen product reliability and accelerate customer validation—all critical steps toward unlocking larger, recurring demand.”

Ms Letheby was recently appointed to Aurora’s board of directors alongside her leadership role, having previously held the role of chief technical officer for more than eight years, through which she gained strong technical expertise from a corporate and commercial perspective.

Ms Letheby has played a key role in securing important defence partnerships for Aurora, and will be working closely with newly-appointed executive director Andrew Garth to further these relationships towards commercial outcomes.
