Drilling at Apollo Consolidated’s Western Australian project has revealed a new zone of gold mineralisation.

Resource expansion drilling at Apollo Consolidated’s (ASX: AOP) Lake Rebecca gold project in Western Australia has uncovered a new zone of gold mineralisation northeast of the Duchess deposit.

The junior explorer today reported new reverse circulation (RC) drilling results from an ongoing shallow exploration and infill drilling program aimed at building on Lake Rebecca’s 1-million-ounce maiden gold resource announced in February.

The latest results comprise 25 shallow RC holes for 3,480m drilled around the Rebecca, Duke and Duchess prospects.

According to Apollo, significant new gold intercepts were returned in several locations, each requiring follow-up work.

These included a 25m intersection grading 1.23 grams per tonne of gold, followed by 15m at 1.4g/t gold in one RC hole over a new prospect located 1.2km northeast of the Duchess deposit.

In addition, a shallow infill hole at the northern part of the Rebecca deposit recovered 10m at 7.68g/t gold including 3m at 21.57g/t gold.

This intercept was supported by 5m at 5.59g/t gold in an adjoining hole, and “flags potential for high-grade structures in this part of the deposit”, Apollo reported.

A 25m intersection grading 1.09g/t gold was also returned in a step-down test at the eastern part of the Duke deposit.

New prospect

According to Apollo, the wide intercepts uncovered near the Duchess deposit suggest a steeply dipping zone of widespread anomalism and mineralisation approximately 30m wide.

The prospect is open for more than 1km northward and 200m to the south.

Follow-up drill sites have been prepared and drilling will continue in this area, the company said.

2020 drilling program

Lake Rebecca’s in-situ pit-constrained mineral resource, announced in February, is estimated at 27.1Mt at 1.2g/t gold for 1.035Moz gold.

This estimate comprises a 19.1Mt resource grading 1.3g/t gold for 775,000oz at the Rebecca deposit; 5.7Mt at 1g/t gold for 180,000oz at Duchess; and 2.3Mt at 1.1g/t gold for 80,000oz gold at Duke.

Apollo’s ongoing 2020 RC and diamond drilling program comprises drilling to expand gold mineralisation in and around the constraining pit shells, particularly in places where the resource extends beyond pit boundaries and where potential for higher grade material has been observed within pit shells that may increase the overall resource grade.

The program also involves shallow RC exploration drilling in under-explored and untested targets in the areas between the three deposits, plus diamond drilling below the Rebecca deposit to track open structures into unexplored target areas.

Apollo said RC drilling is continuing with more than 100 additional sites now prepared.
