Despite the effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, gaming company Animoca Brands has launched a new 3D fantasy tower defence mobile game called Beast Quest Ultimate Heroes, developed in partnership with the UK media group Coolabi.

The new game is based on the best-selling Beast Quest book series and was launched to a global audience on 5 May via Apple’s App Store and Google Play, although

it has already been available on the Samsung Galaxy Store since January 2020.

Animoca Brands said it had already amassed more than 560,000 pre-orders and pre-registrations for the game before the launch, and the first Beast Quest mobile game launched in 2015 has generated over 17 million downloads.

Growing popularity

Beast Quest is a best-selling series of children’s fantasy and adventure novels, with the very first book, Ferno the Fire Dragon, penned by Adam Blade in 2007.

Since initial publication, the series has stretched into more than 100 new titles and has become especially popular with boys aged seven years and older. The books have sold over 20 million copies globally and have been translated into more than 30 languages.

“Beast Quest is a powerful and popular brand, and we hope that fans of the franchise enjoy the challenging action-strategy gameplay that brings to life the colourful universe of this best-selling series of fantasy books,” Animoca Brands co-founder and chairman Yat Siu said.

Animoca Brands stated the first Beast Quest mobile game launched in 2015 attracts over 200,000 monthly active users, with this popularity being a “driving factor” behind the company’s ambition to develop and launch Beast Quest Ultimate Heroes.

According to the company, the new game encapsulates a rich universe including a multitude of characters, storylines and events while featuring magic, battles, wizards and beasts.

Beast Quest Ultimate Heroes is a 3D tower defence mobile game that includes collectable card elements, resource management and other role-playing features.

The game is free to play with optional in-app purchases and features 60 levels of gameplay spread across eight different characters, with more content to be added in future updates, the company said.

“It’s been fantastic working alongside the team at Animoca Brands to develop this new and exciting mobile game. We are so excited for fans new and old all over the world to play this action-packed new game which brings a new 3D style to the Beast Quest universe and characters,” Coolabi Group director of digital Naomi Dare said.
