Amaero (ASX: 3DA) has entered into a five-year exclusive agreement with Titomic (ASX: TTT) for the supply and development of refractory and titanium alloy spherical powders to support Titomic’s proprietary cold spray technology.

The collaboration will combine Amaero’s advanced and scalable powder production capabilities using gas atomisation with Titomic’s expertise in coatings, repair solutions, and near-net-shape part manufacturing.

Amaero will be Titomic’s exclusive supplier of alloy powders unless it fails to achieve certification for any selected alloys within 12 months or in certain other limited cases, and is prohibited from entering into development collaborations with Titomic’s competitors during the agreement period.

National Resiliency Issues

The Amaero-Titomic agreement is in response to resiliency and scalability challenges facing the US federal government’s defence industrial base and the need to re-shore sovereign manufacturing and supply chain capabilities.

President Trump declared a national emergency in April to incentivise the country’s re-shoring, development, and scaling of sovereign manufacturing and supply chain capabilities.

The new partnership will position both companies for accelerated adoption of cold spray technologies in mission-critical defence, space and aerospace applications.

Robust Capabilities

Amaero chair Hank J Holland said it was imperative that the nation focuses on building robust and complementary capabilities while accelerating adoption and qualification.

“Our company has demonstrated its commitment to making forward-leaning investments and aligning with strategic partners to address national security and sovereign manufacturing challenges,” he said.

“Titomic is the leading force in cold spray adoption for advance coatings and for mission-critical parts production and we are excited about this collaboration which will develop and test refractory alloy spherical powders and accelerate the qualification of cold spray as an integral advance manufacturing modality.”

Scalable Powder Supply

Titomic chief executive officer Jim Simpson said the agreement would give the company access to a readily-available, resilient and scalable supply of refractory and titanium alloy spherical powders.

“As defence prime contractors have required spherical refractory powders for development programs, this exclusive collaboration with Amaero ensures the powders we use for first-article demonstrations will be the same powders qualified for production, giving our customers confidence in supply chain continuity and performance,” he said.

“The combination of Amaero’s domestic production capability and our proprietary cold spray technology will further differentiate Titomic in delivering advanced manufacturing solutions for defence, space and aerospace applications.”
