Altech Batteries Targets Early Entry of CERENERGY Technology into Europe, Australia and US Markets

Altech Batteries (ASX: ATC) has signed a strategic collaboration and distribution agreement with global energy solutions company AMPower to enable early market entry for its CERENERGY sodium nickel chloride solid-state battery technology into Europe, Australia, and the US.
The deal will help fast-track commercialisation and enable immediate production of Altech-branded battery packs to meet growing customer demand in the key regions, reinforced by strong interest from existing offtake partners.
Altech expects the strategy to strengthen its market presence while it secures more funding for its CERENERGY plant to complement the recent preliminary approval of $83.2 million from the German government.
German Plant Commissioning
AMPower will produce battery cells, integrate battery management and thermal systems, and assemble grid-ready battery packs ahead of commissioning of Altech’s large-scale CERENERGY plant in Germany.
Altech will oversee the production process and manage branding, regional certifications, marketing, and distribution across the new markets.
The first phase of the agreement will see AMPower produce sodium nickel chloride solid state uninterrupted power supply (UPS) batteries under Altech’s brand for distribution across Europe, Australia, and the US.
A key advantage of sodium nickel chloride UPS batteries is their capacity to stay fully charged, idle, and instantly ready for discharge over a 10-year lifespan without the need for regular maintenance or frequent replacement.
The innovation serves a unique niche in explosion-proof environments where lithium-ion batteries are restricted or banned.
Energy Storage Markets
During the second phase, AMPower will manufacture sodium nickel chloride batteries for the domestic, industrial, and grid-scale energy storage markets using its current production capacity of approximately 100 megawatt-hours per annum (scalable up to 200MWh).
Altech and AMPower will also work together on the development of small and medium-sized sodium nickel battery energy storage systems, with each partner retaining the authority to distribute the product under its own brand.
By supplying Altech’s grid-scale battery packs, AMPower will be able to substantially increase its individual cell production volumes, unlocking greater economies of scale and reducing overall unit costs.
Chilwee Group Subsidiary
AMPower is a subsidiary of Chilwee Group which is the third largest e-mobility battery manufacturer in China with an annual turnover of $30.4 billion, an employee base of 23,000, and production capabilities spanning lead-acid, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and next-generation battery technologies.
The company makes the Zebra-type sodium nickel chloride solid state batteries for the UPS industrial market, and is developing battery energy storage systems and traction batteries.
CERENERGY batteries use the same sodium nickel chloride chemistry but have a different geometry and use profile designed for high performance energy storage systems (ESS).
