Alderan Resources (ASX: AL8) is anticipating assays this month, which have been expedited from initial holes drilled at its Detroit copper and gold project in western Utah.

The US-based project is located in western Utah’s Detroit mining district, and is close to numerous historical copper, gold and manganese mines.

Alderan noted major miners such as Anaconda Copper, Kennecott, Newmont, BHP Group (ASX: BHP) and Freeport-McMoRan have explored the district previously for copper and gold.

However, until Alderan, no company has been able to consolidate a “significant contiguous land position” to enable district-wide modern exploration.

Alderan has pegged up the Detroit project which consolidates 25.5 square kilometres of tenements in the region.

It secured the contiguous land holding through a series of option agreements with tenement owners.

Drilling at Detroit

Alderan has now completed six holes out of a 10-hole for 3,000m drilling program at Detroit.

Previous rock chip samples from the Copperhead area within the project where drilling has just been completed returned up to 3.2% copper and 9.1 grams per tonne gold.

Commenting on the visible results from drill core seen to-date, Alderan managing director Scott Caithness said holes four, five and six had traversed the “favourable host stratigraphy” which contains the known gold mineralisation at the nearby Mizpah prospect and historical Drum gold mine.

He added the ore that had been intercepted had “good indicators” for gold mineralisation.

“Alderan is submitting samples for lab analysis with gold analyses of some sections of the holes being expedited due to pXRF sport analyses on core indicating elevated indicator elements such as arsenic, antimony, selenium and zinc.”

“Expedited assays are expected in December.”

Non-expedited samples are anticipated in February.

The sixth hole was the final one to be completed prior to the Christmas break. Drilling will pick up again next month for the remaining four holes.

Alderan recently boosted Detroit’s potential after agreeing to acquire mining claims covering the historic Drum mine which produced 125,000 ounces of gold prior to 1989.
