Adelong Gold reports positive assays from drilling at historic Gibraltar mine
Near-term producer Adelong Gold (ASX: ADG) has reported positive results from recent exploratory drilling at the historic Gibraltar mine within the Adelong project in New South Wales.
The company also confirmed wide zones of mineralisation identified from a discovery drill hole which collectively represent an intercept of 11 metres at 3.45 grams per tonne gold from a relatively shallow depth.
The recent campaign was completed in October and comprised 541m of reverse circulation drilling designed to better define mineralisation from previous holes.
Wide zone of silification
Adelong said the first three drill holes west of the discovery hole demonstrated a wide zone of silicification with numerous intersections above cut-off grade.
In a similar pattern to the initial hole, the zone contained pervasive silicic alteration and associated gold mineralisation which in places exceeded widths of 50m and comprised many higher-grade zones.
Best intersections were 1m at 4.99g/t gold from 11m; 3m at 12.57g/t gold from 20m including 1m at 34.6g/t from 20m; 3m at 1.17g/t gold from 34m; 1m at 3.73g/t gold from 43m; 2m at 3.55g/t gold from 63m; and 1m at 1.6g/t gold from 70m.
Other results were 1m at 2.77g/t gold from 28m; 2m at 2.2g/t gold from 38m; 1m at 1.91g/t gold from 71m; and 6m at 2.73 g/t gold from 90m including 1m at 8.58g/t gold.
Larger-scale structures
Managing director Peter Mitchell said the latest assays highlighted the potential for larger-scale mineralised structures at Gibraltar which warrant further investigation.
“This drilling has shown for the first time very wide zones of pervasive mineralisation indicating the potential of the Gibraltar area to generate a large tonnage resource,” he said.
“It also enhances the potential of the exploration concept of a larger deposit located below the Adelong Creek where northeast-trending multiple veins intersect the Wondalga Shear.”
Mr Mitchell said the company would now focus on bringing Gibraltar into the resource inventory for the Adelong gold project.
Exploration drilling
In April, Adelong initiated exploration drilling around the Gibraltar mine which included three holes into and around the Perkin’s Workings shaft.
Two of the holes reported some silicification but only one commercial-grade intersection.
A hole located 60m west of Perkin’s intersected five zones of gold mineralisation grading more than 1g/t gold at very shallow depths.
Results included 1m at 3.36g/t gold from 2m; 5m at 3.8g/t gold from 13m; 3m at 1.96g/t gold from 25m; 1m at 4.18g/t gold from 38m and 1m at 5.36g/t gold from 47m.
This campaign was followed up with the recently-completed October program.
