Activeport Group (ASX: ATV) is accelerating the growth of its Global Edge platform by integrating it with the national broadband network (NBN) to enable data access from high-density city locations to virtually anywhere in Australia.

Introduced in June, the network-as-a-service platform delivers self-service connectivity via Fibreconx, currently the most adaptable solution in Australia for linking inner-city offices in Sydney and Melbourne to co-location data centres.

The company has utilised Managed Network’s NBN POI (points of interconnect) backhaul for connectivity to 121 points of presence, allowing it to offer nationwide service without incurring additional capital investment or operational overheads.

Cross-Country Connections

The addition of NBN expands the platform’s scope, allowing businesses with multiple offices at different sites — which typically value unified network management for consistency and operational efficiency — to establish connections across the country with enhanced reach.

By combining Fibreconx’s flexible bandwidth options with NBN’s extensive reach, Global Edge can facilitate the seamless migration of entire networks to a single, integrated platform.

With this expanded coverage, the company can also equip international carriers with streamlined tools to provision circuits originating overseas and terminating anywhere in Australia.

Much-Needed Coverage

Activeport chief executive officer Peter Christie said the integration of NBN would provide much-needed national coverage for the Global Edge platform.

“Comprehensive network access is essential to delivering a last mile service in Australia to our international carrier and data centre customers, and allowing us to increase revenue-generation capacity on our Global Edge network,” he said.

“Our goal is to position Global Edge as the premier solution for global telcos to acquire, integrate, and manage circuits between overseas origins and Australian destinations by simplifying purchasing and automating network management.”

Significant NBN Opportunity

The NBN presents a significant opportunity for Global Edge, with NBN Co reporting $5.7 billion in revenue for financial year 2025 and 8.63 million active connections across 12.56 million premises in urban, regional, and rural Australia.

NBN offers business users specialised wholesale products such as its Enterprise Ethernet, which provides symmetric speeds and a 99.95% network availability commitment to meet the demands for high-bandwidth applications, site integration, and secure data transport.

Integrating Global Edge with NBN enables Activeport to address the increasing need for scalable, automated enterprise networking in Australia’s evolving telecommunications sector.
