92 Energy (ASX: 92E) is about to begin a new drill campaign at its Athabasca Basin project in Canada aimed at extending Gemini’s zones of high-grade mineralisation.

Field crews have arrived at the Saskatchewan province site and two drill rigs are now in transit to Gemini for the 4,000m program, the first round of summer drilling.

The last round of work in the winter program involved 16 holes, with grades of up to 9.66% uranium oxide intersected.

This August, drilling will follow up the success of holes 65m south of known mineralisation and returning 5m at 1.47% uranium oxide (including 0.5m at 9.66%) and 15.5m at 0.35% (including 2.5m at 0.93%).

Gemini drilling will expand exploration footprint

Gemini is located 27km southeast of McArthur River, one of the world’s largest uranium mines. The project is also 60km from the Key Lake uranium mill.

Uranium mineralisation at Gemini is entirely basement hosted and, so far, has been defined over an area measuring 250m by 240m.

Apart from extending the known zones of mineralisation, the drilling will also test recently identified uranium and intense hydrothermal alterations 280m north of the mineralised area and 400m east of the initial discovery area.

The field crews will also test along trend from the Gemini discovery to the south and north, as well as the western trend which has yet to be drilled.

Drilling to begin this week

Managing director Siobhan Lancaster said the company has already established the presence of high-grade mineralisation and outlined uranium over a significant area.

“The mineralisation remains open along trend and we have numerous other targets to test,” she stated.

Drilling is expected to begin this week and will continue through until the end of September.

New exploration VP

Geologist Serdar Donmez has been appointed 92 Energy’s new vice president of exploration.

Over the past 17 years Mr Donmez has been involved in a number of uranium exploration and developments in northern Saskatchewan for Toronto-listed Denison Mines.

These include work at the Wheeler River project which hosts the Phoenix and Gryphon uranium deposits.
