Wide zones of shallow gold intersected at Kin Mining’s Rangoon prospect
A highlight intercept from drilling at Rangoon was 43m at 1.03g/t gold from 39m, including 15m at 1.55g/t gold from 48m.
Kin Mining (ASX: KIN) has revealed “highly encouraging” drill results from the Rangoon area within its 1.275 million ounce Cardinia gold project near Leonora in Western Australia.
The results come from what the company describes as the under-explored Rangoon zone in the Eastern Corridor of its project area.
New reverse circulation gold hits from east of the historical Rangoon surface workings include 43m at 1.03 grams per tonne gold, 31m at 1.07g/t, 27m at 1.05g/t, and 23m at 1.28g/t, with all holes containing higher grade intervals (up to 3.49g/t).
The company says these results further reinforce the “substantial endowment” of the emerging Eastern Corridor at Cardinia and the potential to define additional resources.
Drill program to increase understanding of geology
The Eastern Corridor program is aimed at increasing the geological understanding of a number of prospects located along it.
Mineralisation discovered so far covers an area 5km by 1km on the eastern side of the Cardinia project area.
The Corridor includes Cardinia Hill, Helens, Fiona and Rangoon which collectively host 239,000oz of gold resource.
Managing director Andrew Munckton said the latest results from Rangoon have provided further evidence of the Corridor’s potential.
“What is important here is the style of mineralisation we have been intersecting and the geometry of the lodes.”
Test work indicates ‘excellent’ recovery rate
“The mineralisation is predominantly primary, sulphide-hosted … which is easily recognisable and has the same origins as the other mineralisation along Eastern Corridor,” he said.
“Recent metallurgical test work at Cardinia Hill has shown excellent recovery of gold from similar sulphide ores.”
Drilling at Rangoon was completed in April, comprising 32 RC holes for 3,913m.
Kin says that, at Rangoon, the workings and previous broad-spaced reverse circulation and diamond core drilling intersected east-dipping quartz sulphide lodes.
It is interpreted that the east-dipping quartz sulphide lodes link at depth, to the Fiona Fault located 100m to the east and potentially to the Cardinia Hill Fault located a further 300m to the east.
“The Rangoon target therefore represents a potential new structural position away from the historical drilling locations and surface workings which reinforces the significant prospectivity of the Eastern Corridor as a large mineralised system.”
