The potential of Tesoro Resources’ (ASX: TSO) El Zorro project in Chile continues to grow with managing director Zeff Reeves describing the project as a “major gold district” after further high potential targets were identified.

First pass mapping and channel sampling over a 7km by 6km area at El Zorro have identified multiple lookalike targets to the project’s flagship Ternera deposit.

Highlight channel sample results from the first pass program were 2m at 101.5 parts per million gold, 2m at 19.4ppm gold, and 3m at 2.12ppm gold.

“Having just spent the week at El Zorro walking the ground with the team, I am excited about the sheer scale of the mineralising system at El Zorro and substantial targets being delineated,” Mr Reeves said.

“It is astounding the amount of gold contained within the large-scale El Zorro mineralising system – demonstrating the emergence of El Zorro as a major gold district.”

He said the company had now identified multiple large-scale zones that have “all the hallmarks” for hosting significant gold.

“These new targets are significantly more extensive than the footprint of the Ternera gold deposit.”

“We are excited about the growing prospectivity of the district and are looking forward to drilling these areas in the coming months,” Mr Reeves added.

Advancing El Zorro

Tesoro has already begun more detailed channel sampling across the high priority targets discovered in the first pass program.

The company expects to firm up drill targets from the sampling campaigns in the next six-to-eight weeks, with drilling to kick-off shortly after.

Meanwhile, Tesoro is awaiting final assays from recently completed drilling at the primary Ternera deposit.

Once these are published, Tesoro plans to announce an update to Ternera’s current resource of 25.1 million tonnes at 0.82 grams per tonne gold for 661,000 ounces.

Recent assays from the deposit were described as “spectacular” with best results of 63.93m at 7.61g/t gold, including 7m at 66.1g/t gold; and 63.6m at 2.89g/t gold, including 10.6m at 14.34g/t gold.
