Strong results keep coming for Azure Minerals at Andover nickel-copper project

Exploration at Azure Minerals’ (ASX: AZS) 60%-owned Andover nickel-copper project in Western Australia’s West Pilbara region has intersected more massive sulphides including a 20.8m-wide zone containing “significant” mineralisation.
Five diamond holes hit intervals containing substantial widths of nickel-copper sulphides.
In every hole, massive, matrix and disseminated sulphides coincided with strong electromagnetic (EM) conductors detected by surface fixed loop and downhole electromagnetic surveys.
The 20.8m zone was encountered from a downhole depth of 325.2m and contains multiple zones of nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation in the form of massive, semi-massive, matrix, blebby and disseminated pentlandite, chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite.
Results include: 3.2m of matrix to massive sulphides from 329.8m; and 1.5m of semi-massive to massive sulphides from 340.5m.
This interval is believed to be followed by a 23.4m-wide zone of weakly disseminated sulphide mineralisation in the gabbro host rock, resulting in a 44.2m-wide mineralised envelope supporting the potential for a substantial body of mineralisation at Andover.
Step-out drilling
Azure said drilling will continue to test for down-dip mineralised extensions and will be followed by step-out drilling to the west-northwest to test the along-strike extent of a previously-identified conductor plate.
Follow-up downhole EM surveying will provide greater definition on the vertical and down-dip extent of the conductor.
Based on surface fixed loop surveys completed to date, 12 separate conductor anomalies have been identified within the Andover project area, which is located 35km southeast of Karratha and immediately south of Roebourne.
Drilling to test the highest priority conductors is being planned for the first quarter of 2021, subject to drill rig availability.
Positive results
Earlier this month, Azure reported a series of positive results from Andover drilling, with the fourth hole intercepting a 38m zone which coincides with a previously untested, strongly conductive EM conductor.
That success followed a strong performance from the first three holes drilled in October and displayed similar results to the first two holes of the campaign.
Andover is situated in a well-mineralised district, with Artemis Resources’ (ASX: ARV) Carlow Castle gold-copper-cobalt deposit 3km to the west, the now-closed Radio Hill nickel-copper mine and plant 28km to the southwest, and Sabre Resources’ (ASX: SBR) Sherlock Bay nickel deposit 30km to the east.
