Monger Gold (ASX: MMG) has kicked-off a mapping and sampling program across its Mt Monger South greenfield project, which spans 13 tenements southeast of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.

Field work will focus on mapping and sampling outcrop, sub crop, float, and identification of regolith types – especially in areas where gold and base metals may be concealed beneath transported cover.

Additionally, Monger will begin a major augur vacuum drilling program across the tenements in the March quarter.

Samples from the vacuum drilling will be evaluated using the CSIRO Ultrafine fraction soil technique.

According to Monger, applying the Ultrafine technology to end-of-hole samples, along with surface soil samples will increased the company’s chances of exploration success.

Mt Monger North

The work at Mt Monger South follows successful infill drilling at the nearby Mt Monger North project.

Monger completed a 600m drilling program for nine holes to build on historical results.

Seven of the holes were undertaken at the Providence prospect, while the remaining two were completed at Canista.

Drilling at Providence generated highlight intercepts of 3m at 7.07 grams per tonne gold from 14m, including 1m at 15.99g/t gold; 8m at 16.15g/t gold from 60m, including 1m at 111.4g/t gold and 1m at 15.01g/t gold; and 8m at 31.84g/t gold from 66m, including 1m at 37.03g/t gold, 1m at 18.2g/t gold and a bonanza 1m interval grading 190.06g/t gold.

Recent listing

Monger listed on the ASX in July this year after raising $5 million in a heavily oversubscribed IPO.

The company had a market cap of $7.28 million on listing and a tight register with the top 20 shareholders owning almost 62%.

Mt Monger North is adjacent to Silver Lake Resources’ (ASX: SLR) Daisy Milano gold complex. As well as proximity to Daisy Milano, Mt Monger North is along strike of Black Cat Syndicate’s (ASX: BC8) Wombola Dam open pit operation that has produced 27,000 ounces of gold.

Gold production in the region has exceeded 1.67Moz.

As well as Mt Monger North and Mt Monger South, Monger owns the Gibraltar project, which is also prospective for gold and known deposits.
