Results from drilling at Monger Gold’s (ASX: MMG) flagship Mt Monger North project in Western Australia’s eastern goldfields has uncovered a new prospect at Hoffmann North.

One reverse circulation hole drilled for 100 metres to the northwest of the prospect was designed to follow up on vacuum assays from last year which included 1m at 6.26 grams per tonne from 39m.

Structures in the area are interpreted to strike in a northwest direction, which is antithetic to the northeast strike of the new prospect.

An adjacent vacuum hole to the northeast was found to have anomalous support of 1.39g/t gold at end-of-hole.

Elevated arsenic with a northwest strike in vacuum holes suggests an associated structure.

Other notable trace elements associations were bismuth, molybdenum, tellurium and tungsten.

Prospective targets

Monger chairman Peretz Schapiro said the new discovery will bolster the company’s portfolio of prospective targets across its tenements.

“Drill results for this area illustrate the potential for generating new prospects with significant gold mineralisation at Monger North,” he said.

“This first drill hole into Hoffmann North requires more drilling to test the quartz vein gold in fresh rock where depletion has not occurred,” Mr Schapiro added.

Quartz veins

Hoffmann North is believed to comprise subvertical quartz veins in a felsic volcanic host rock with little transported cover but very deep weathering in an upper saprolite profile.

A few very shallow old workings were found to target quartz veins from surface, but potentially because of the deep weathering of the felsic volcanic host rock, gold was leached from the quartz veins.

Follow-up drilling is being planned to target the veins which are open at depth and along strike.

Providence prospect

Hoffmann North is around 3.5 kilometres from Monger’s Providence prospect where diamond drill holes are currently being planned to intersect and characterise high-grade gold mineralisation found during a recent reverse circulation program.

Best results from that program included up to 8m at 31.84g/t gold from 66m, including 1m at 190.08g/t gold from 70m.
