Mamba Exploration is gearing up for the next phase of gold exploration at Calyerup Creek as its maiden drilling program wraps up.

Junior explorer Mamba Exploration (ASX: M24) has been approved for additional drilling at its Calyerup Creek gold project in Western Australia following the completion of its maiden drilling program.

The company completed an initial 56 shallow reverse circulation (RC) holes testing the Southern prospect and two significant gold-in-soil trends identified during a 2021 sampling program.

Results have been received for the first 22 holes with Mamba reporting “significant mineralisation” in 20.

Samples from the remaining 34 holes have been submitted to the Perth laboratory for analysis with results expected in early to mid-April.

Follow-up drilling approved

The successful initial results led to Mamba submitting a program of works to WA’s Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) to request permission for follow-up drilling to be undertaken. DMIRS approved this on 11 March, allowing a further 110 RC or diamond holes to be drilled within a four-year period.

Following this approval by DMIRS, Mamba has sent an activity notice to the Traditional Owners of the area requesting a heritage survey to cover the Southern prospect and the southern geochemical trends the company has identified.

This survey is expected to be undertaken within the next six to eight weeks, which should enable follow-up drilling to commence prior to winter, Mamba said.

In addition, the company has been informed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) that they intend to undertake a prescribed burn of the bushland covering the entire Calyerup Creek project in late autumn or early winter.

Mamba said it is working with the DBCA to minimise the impact this burn will have on the company’s exploration activities.

Calyerup Creek’s shallow high-grade gold

The Calyerup Creek project comprises two exploration licences spanning 45 sq km, located about 12km east of Jerramungup in WA’s Great Southern region.

The best intersection returned from the maiden drilling program to date graded at 9.74 grams per tonne of gold (within a 15m intersection grading at 2.08g/t from a shallow depth of 3m), while the soil sampling program recovered up to 2.8g/t gold.

The two trends identified from soil sampling are each estimated to measure about 1,400m long.
