Estrella Resources ESR ASX massive nickel copper sulphides Carr Boyd project

Estrella Resources’ first step-out diamond hole at the T5 target within Carr Boyd hit an interval of 0.7m at 4.3% nickel and 0.16% copper with 1.88g/t 2PGEs.

Copied

Further massive nickel-copper sulphides intersected during step-out drilling at the Carr Boyd project north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia have returned significant assays for junior explorer Estrella Resources (ASX: ESR).

Three sulphide zones were encountered over the last 170m of an individual diamond drill hole, and all contained significant widths of massive sulphides with accompanying globular, highly-disseminated, disseminated, stringer and cloud sulphides.

Estrella said drilling returned some of the best grades to date, with highlights from the upper zone of 11.62m at 0.9% nickel and 0.46% copper with 0.61 grams per tonne 2PGEs (derived from platinum and palladium), including 0.95m at 2.78% nickel and 0.23% copper with 1g/t 2PGEs.

Best results from the lower zone were 12.8m at 0.96% nickel and 0.79% copper with 0.85g/t 2PGEs, including 1.81m at 2.8% nickel and 0.44% copper with 1.53g/t 2PGEs, including 0.7m at 4.30% nickel and 0.16% copper with 1.88g/t 2PGEs.

The third zone was confirmed to occur as massive matrix breccia sulphides and returned a best assay of 3.7m at 1.76% nickel and 0.66% copper with 1.10g/t 2PGEs including 0.7m at 3.35% nickel and 0.63% copper with 1g/t 2PGEs.

More nickel-copper-PGE hits

Estrella managing director Chris Daws said he was pleased with the continued unearthing of more nickel mineralisation at Carr Boyd.

“Our team is getting a very good understanding of the Carr Boyd geological setting and these latest results demonstrate our ability to unlock further prospective mineralisation,” he said.

“We have made numerous massive nickel and copper sulphide intersections with only a very small portion of the basal contact area tested [to date].”

Drilling campaign

Estrella is aiming to complete at least 25,000m of reverse circulation drilling into the Broonhill, Mossgiel and Gossan Hill prospects at Carr Boyd before mid-2022.

They have been identified as the most prospective western basal contact areas within the project and have been subject to very little (if any) historical drilling.

The prospects are considered to have “very high potential” to accumulate nickel and copper sulphides and geological exploration is expected to progress rapidly over the next six months.
