Drilling at Zone C within Roberts Hill has hit 28m of visible sulphides.

Caeneus Minerals (ASX: CAD) is now half-way through its maiden aircore drilling program and has unearthed visible sulphides at Roberts Hill near De Grey Mining’s (ASX: DEG) famed Hemi discovery in Western Australia’s Pilbara.

The company has drilled almost 10,000m, with the program now complete at zones B, C and D, which encompass more than 15 square kilometres of tenements.

Drilling here focused on a 5km wide structural corridor across zones B and C, as well as a potential intrusive feature in Zone D.

A hole in Zone C intersected 28m of visible sulphides, with the zone starting at 85m and extending to end-of-hole.

This adds to the traces of sulphides found in 20 holes completed in Zone A, which was announced previously.

In the current program, drilling will be completed across zones E and F, with results to be released as they come to hand.

Caeneus is already altering its program of works for follow up diamond and percussion drilling across the targets identified in zones B, C and D.

Mallina Basin exploration licences

Roberts Hill covers 170 square kilometres of ground in the Mallina Basin and is about 50km south of Port Hedland.

The project area contains the same sheer trends that are found at Hemi.

As well as Roberts Hill, Caeneus owns the Mt Berghaus project which covers 179sq km of ground in the same region.

Closer to Port Hedland is Caeneus’ Yule River asset and the company also owns the Pardoo project, also in the Pilbara.

Nearby major gold discovery

Caeneus says it is “highly encouraged” it will make a similar-style gold discovery to Hemi within its own tenements.

De Grey’s Hemi discovery makes up part of its wider Mallina project which contains 9 million ounces of gold in resources.

Hemi contributes 6.8Moz to that global resource, with all deposits making up the discovery remaining open.
